Valley Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Locations

Valley Children’s supports a network of NICUs in throughout Central California, providing the opportunity for families with critically ill babies to receive treatment closer to home.

This allows more babies delivered in local communities who require a higher level of care to stay in the same hospital as their mothers.

Our neonatal intensive care units are located in:

  • Valley Children's Hospital, Madera - Valley Children’s provides regional Level IV NICU support - the highest level of care available for neonates and infants - at our main campus in Madera. Our NICU provides 24-hour, onsite coverage by board-certified neonatologists with the ability to consult with our broad spectrum of highly specialized medical and surgical specialists. The 88-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including 21 private and semi-private rooms, enables parents to stay overnight with their infant for added support.
  • Saint Agnes Medical Center, Fresno – an eight-bed Community Level III and a six-bed Intermediate Level II NICU
  • Mercy Medical Center, Merced – an eight-bed Intermediate Level II NICU
  • Adventist Medical Center, Hanford – a six-bed Intermediate Level II NICU

Resuscitation Teams Attend All High-Risk Deliveries

Our Resuscitation Teams made up of extended practice trained RNs and respiratory care practitioners attend all high-risk deliveries. Depending on their clinical status, patients are stabilized onsite and then either remain within the satellite location or are prepared for critical transport via our Medical Transport Team to Valley Children’s. If transported to Valley Children’s at birth, critical patients who become well enough may return to regional locations for the remainder of their care.

Many infants can be managed within the Community Level III or Intermediate Level II NICU for the duration of their inpatient stay to receive high-quality patient care.
