Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty certified
in maternal-fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, Dr. Robert Sigman joined Valley Children’s as a maternal-fetal
medicine specialist in October 2012.
Dr. Sigman came to Valley Children’s from the University of North Texas
Health Science Center where he worked as an assistant professor,
department of obstetrics and gynecology, in Fort Worth, Texas. While
there, he developed the first prenatal genetic program at UNT.
Other positions Dr. Sigman has held include: director, maternal-fetal
medicine, Deaconess Hospital, Spokane, Washington.; director, critical
care obstetrics, Saint Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, Idaho; and running a
private practice in Huntsville, Alabama.
Dr. Sigman has achieved many other accomplishments in his field. As the only
board-certified perinatologist in eastern Washington, he developed a highly
successful perinatal ultrasound, teaching and consultative practice. As the only
private perinatologist in the state of Alabama, he developed a perinatal program for
northern Alabama that reduced perinatal morbidity and mortality, and established
the only ultrasound and genetics lab between Birmingham, Alabama, and Nashville,
Tennessee. As head of maternal-fetal medicine at the University of South Dakota,
he developed intrastate outreach programs for the Indian reservation system and
Ellsworth Air Force Base, and a statewide perinatal network.
Dr. Sigman has presented on numerous maternal-fetal topics across the country.
He has also published in peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Ultrasound in
Medicine, and European Journal of Ultrasound.
Dr. Sigman received his medical degree from University of Pittsburgh School
of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He did his medical internship at West
Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh. He completed his residency in obstetrics and
gynecology at Charity Hospital, Louisiana State University, in New Orleans. He did
his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Washington University, in St. Louis,
Dr. Sigman is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine. In his free time, he
enjoys motorcycle riding and flying his own plane.
