Board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. James Nelson joined Children’s Hospital Central California as a pediatric neurologist in August 2013. His areas of clinical interest include neuroimaging.

Dr. James NelsonWith more than 15 years’ experience in the medical field, Dr. Nelson comes to us from Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, child neurology practice, in Omaha, Neb. While there he also served as an assistant professor in child neurology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Previously, Dr. Nelson worked in private practice for more than a decade, including helping to found Presbyterian Pediatric Neurology medical group in Charlotte, N.C., and at Physician Group Associates in Springfield, Ill.

Dr. Nelson is a member of several professional organizations, including the Child Neurology Society and Specialty Medical Group.

Dr. Nelson received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He did his pediatric internship at the University of Miami–Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla., and his pediatric residency at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria in Peoria, Ill. He completed his fellowship in child neurology at Saint Louis University, in St. Louis, Mo.

In his free time, Dr. Nelson enjoys hiking and spending time with family.
