Diabetes

The Pediatric Diabetes Care Center at Children’s Hospital Central California provides expert diagnosis and management of infants, children and adolescents. Children who are inpatients at the Hospital can be referred to the practice for diabetes mangement.

We bring a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. In addition to pediatric endocrinologists, the practice is staffed with certified diabetic educators, social workers, clinical psychologists and dietitians.

Nurses, nurse practitioners, and dieticians in the practice are Certified Diabetes Educators. Along with providing excellent care, the Diabetes Team conducts four educational sessions on diabetes self-management with patients and families, and two additional advanced education sessions. The sessions consist of individualized education plans and resource materials that measure patient progress.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA), the largest and most widely known organization in the field of diabetes, has recognized the Pediatric Diabetes Care Center at Children's Hospital Central California for promoting quality education for families with children who have diabetes. The ADA Education Recognition distinguishes healthcare organizations, such as Children's Hospital, that provide quality diabetes self-management education services.

Earning the ADA Education Recognition was no simple task, the Diabetes Practice at Children's achieved this special recognition by meeting the national standards for diabetes self-management education, set by the ADA, through meticulous patient record maintenance, keeping the nursing staff well educated in diabetes management, and providing excellent patient care.
