The Child Life Department at Children’s Hospital Central California hosted its annual Teddy Bear Health Fair to teach kids about health and safety. Hundreds of concerned “parents” converged on the hospital to make sure their “little ones” were healthy.
Children in Pre-K to third grade brought their teddy bears and dolls in for a checkup. Their bears went through triage, x-ray and physical therapy among other things. The pint-sized “parents” and “kids” also visited interactive health education booths on nutrition and literacy.
More than ten different departments participated, including:
- Speech Therapy
- Occupational and Physical Therapy
- Critical Care Transport
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Medical Imaging
- Emergency Department
The Child Life Department organizes this annual event to allow children to learn in a non-threatening way some of the things that happen during a trip to the hospital.
