Fresno State sports fans may be seeing some little faces out on the field this year. Children's Hospital and Fresno State have partnered to name Kid Captains for selected sporting events.
Six special Children's Hospital patients served as ambassadors for Fresno State men's and women's basketball, and six more will throw out the opening pitch at Fresno State baseball and softball games this spring.
Kid Captain Miranda Castro opened the Fresno State softball game against Boise State in April by firing a pitch to Bulldogs Pitcher Ashley Cox. Miranda, a long-time hematology patient at Children's was excited to share the evening with the Dogs and her family. Children's Kid Captains will appear at upcoming Fresno State softball games against New Mexico State on April 23 and Louisiana Tech on May 7.
Five-year-old Chase Kizirian warmed up with the Fresno State baseball
team and got some tips from Bulldogs Coach Mike Batesole before the Fresno State - UC Davis game in March. Watch for more Children's Hospital Kid Captains at the April 30 game against Dallas Baptist and San Jose State on May 14.
Look for the Kid Captains in the fall at all the Bulldogs home football games. They'll be the little guys down on the field helping out with the pre-game coin toss.
