The $42 million fundraising drive known as the Campaign for Children’s reached its successful completion Sept. 30 as 11,384 generous contributors helped us not only achieve – but also surpass – our ambitious goal.
Nearly a dozen trailblazers led the way. Prior to the Campaign’s official kickoff marked by the Oct. 12, 2009 “Topping Off Ceremony” held at Paramount Farms Plaza, these generous supporters contributed a total of more than $14 million during the silent phase of the Campaign: The Guilds of Children’s Hospital ($5M); Paramount Farms ($4M); the Ruiz Family and Ruiz Foods ($1M); Margaret Bennett ($1M); Jane Seddon Willson ($1M); Bill and Linda Smittcamp Family ($500K); The Radin Foundation ($500K); the Matty Matoian Family ($500K); Bank of America ($250K); Berberian Brothers and the Berberian Family ($250K); and Ken and Susan Boyd ($100K)
In the months following the public announcement of the Campaign for Children’s, the community consistently demonstrated their support for the region’s children’s hospital. By committing your time, talent and treasure, you have partnered with us to continuously improve the health and wellbeing of children. Your gifts to Children’s Hospital have changed little lives.
Leading the community charge, Campaign co-chairs Bill and Linda Smittcamp, drove this initiative at full speed for four years. Their tireless commitment to see the Campaign through to its triumphant end stems from their passion to ensure every child in Central California has access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services, regardless of their ability to pay. “There is no such thing as a child we shouldn’t care for,” said Bill. “Whether they are ours, our neighbor’s or from across the Valley.”
Altogether, 34,446 separate contributions added up to help the Hospital exceed our $42 million goal by more than $800,000. These gifts, both large and small, helped to support our Children’s Fund, three new endowments and a hospital expansion project that was needed to meet the growing needs of our community.
Several major gifts given in the final stretch of the Campaign helped push us over the top.
