Paul Lebby, PhD, provides clinical consultation and conducts evaluations and assessments of individuals with known or suspected neurological compromise. He was trained at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in procedures involving awake intrasurgical brain mapping and Wada (Transfemoral Intracarotid Sodium Amytal/Methahexital) examinations utilizing interventional radiology techniques. He also studied neuroradiology, and currently trains others on reading and utilizing brain scans in clinical practice. Dr. Lebby is among only a handful of experts with such training and skills, and who provides such services on the West Coast.
In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Lebby is an assistant professor of neurology at University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, an assistant clinical professor of Pediatrics at UCSF–Fresno, and full professor and director of the Department of Neuropsychology at Alliant International University. He has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Chapman University in Orange, Calif., and an instructor at University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Lebby is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties - Forensic Neuropsychology. He is a member of several professional societies including the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the American Psychological Association and the American College of Forensic Examiners.
Dr. Lebby has written a book on traumatic brain injury “The Source for TBI – Traumatic Brain Injury: Children and Adolescents,” and several chapters for professional texts on subjects including pediatric traumatic encephalopathies. Dr. Lebby is a highly sought after presenter at conferences and symposiums and is frequently invited to present at professional meetings across the United States. A committed researcher, Dr. Lebby has published scientific papers and has chaired more than 50 doctoral dissertations on topics relating to brain functioning. He has acted as a scientific reviewer for the Institutional Review Board at Children’s Hospital and Alliant International University.
Active in the community, Dr. Lebby is a past president of the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Central California and a founding member of the Kiwanis Children’s Hospital Central California Chapter. He served on the board of directors of Alliant International University for more than a decade and is a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Dr. Lebby gives presentations on brain injury, neurologic disorders and rehabilitation to local groups including Fresno City College Brain Injury Support Group and Community Hospitals - Fresno Brain Injury Support Group. He also provides no-fee client services to low-income children and adults.
Dr. Lebby earned his doctorate in psychology with an emphasis in neuropsychology and neurophysiology at University of California, Berkeley. He completed a predoctoral internship and a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology in the Department of Neurology at the UCSF Medical Center.
