Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics with subspecialty certification in pediatric critical care medicine, Dr. Jorge Montes has more than 25 years’ experience. He joined Children’s Hospital Central California in August 2000. He is the medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Dr. Montes is a member of several professional organizations including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Medical Association. He has served in an administrative position as medical director of the PICU at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Va.; medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M.; and director of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville. In addition to providing direct patient care, Dr. Montes has held academic positions including assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Miami School of Medicine and associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. He has been published in several professional journals including “Critical Care Medicine” and “Neonatal Intensive Care.”
A graduate from the University of Caldas School of Medicine in Colombia, Dr. Montes completed his internship at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Penn., and pediatric residency at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital in Wisconsin. He also completed a residency in the Department of Anesthesia at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital prior to starting his fellowship. Dr. Montes did a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children-University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada.
