Dr. Jose Martinez is board certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition by the American Board of Pediatrics. An active member of Children’s medical staff, Dr. Martinez has directly supervised numerous pediatric residents at Children’s Hospital; many of them have become physicians for the Hospital or other healthcare organizations within the community. He has also given lecture sessions in pediatric gastroenterology topics to the Hospital’s nursing staff for the last nine years. These lectures include the most common pediatric gastroenterology diseases of patients admitted to Children’s and has helped our nurses in providing excellent care to pediatric gastroenterology patients.
Also actively involved in the medical community, Dr. Martinez has helped organize international postgraduate courses including the First International Course in Pediatric Gastroenterology. For the past five years, he has traveled with a group of specialists from Children’s to Mexico and provided free consultations in general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition to rural communities in Mexico.
A graduate of the University of Michoacan, Mexico, Dr. Martinez completed an internship in general internal medicine and a pediatric residency in Mexico. Following a move to the United States, he completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville and a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the University of California, Irvine.
