Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Joel Brownell joined Children’s Hospital Central California in 2000. Dr. Brownell serves as our chief medical information officer as well as a pediatric hospitalist. He helped lead the implementation of computerized physician order entry (CPOE) in 2011, and has been instrumental in the Hospital’s ongoing electronic documentation and prescription management efforts.

An active member of the Hospital’s medical staff, Dr. Brownell participates in several committees including the Executive Council, and leads the Medical Staff’s Health Information Management (HIM) Committee. He also served as medical director of the Charlie Mitchell Children’s Center (complex primary care) for seven years.

Dr. Brownell earned his medical degree from Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis. He completed an internship and residency at the University of California, Davis Department of Pediatrics. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
