An expert in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Frank Hanley joined Children’s Hospital in December 1996. Board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery in cardiothoracic surgery, he is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Program in The Willson Heart Center at Children’s. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Team is part of the Northern California regional congenital heart program affiliated with Stanford University.
Dr. Hanley’s work – including the unifocalization procedure, which he developed – focuses on the repair of life-threatening heart defects. He has given more than 75 presentations and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Hanley belongs to many professional organizations including the American Heart Association, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Howard C. Naffziger Surgical Society and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Dr. Hanley earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he became chief resident in both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Hanley did a fellowship at UCSF’s Cardiovascular Research Institute.
