Board certified in pediatric emergency medicine
by the American Board of Emergency Medicine,
Dr. Elizabeth Muckerman returned to Children’s Hospital in December 2004. Prior to returning to Children’s, Dr. Muckerman provided emergency medical coverage at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., as well as Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville, Nev. Dr. Muckerman is a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Medical Association. She has given numerous lectures on emergency medicine, from abdominal emergencies in infants to neonatal resuscitation.

Her professional experience also includes having served as assistant medical director of the Parkmedic Program at Sequoia/King’s Canyon National Park Emergency Medical Services. She was co-creator of the University of California, San Francisco-Fresno (UCSF-Fresno) International Emergency Medicine Fellowship, which offered fellowship training in emergency medicine to international emergency medicine physicians at University Medical Center in Fresno.

An active member of the community, Dr. Muckerman has provided hospice care, founded a free food program for the homeless in Burlington, Vt., and provided college preparation for disadvantaged high school students.

Dr. Muckerman received her medical degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at UCSF-Fresno, where she served as chief resident of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She completed her senior area of concentration in pediatric emergency medicine here at Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Muckerman also holds a master’s degree in education from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and daughter. Her hobbies include cross country skiing, hiking, bicycling, running, traveling, Asian food, and foreign languages and cultures.
