Board certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine, Dr. Adam Birek has been practicing anesthesiology and pediatric critical care at Children’s since 1983. An active member of Children’s medical staff, Dr. Birek served as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Chair of the Critical Care Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee at the Hospital. He has also served in an administrative capacity as Chief of Anesthesiology at the V.A. Medical Center in Fresno for two years.
Dr. Birek’s research has been published in professional journals including the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics and Critical Care Medicine. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Birek is also an Assistant Clinical Professor with the University of California, San Francisco-Fresno Medical Education Program.
Born and raised in North-Western Romania, Dr. Birek earned his medical degree from the University of Tirgu Mures, Medical School in Romania and completed a two year surgical internship there at the university. He completed five years of postgraduate medical training at the University of Toronto School of Medicine, where he completed his residency and fellowship in anesthesiology and critical care. Dr. Birek completed an otolaryngology residency at the UCLA Medical Center.
